In March of 2009, Lisa McLeod did something that was not normally allowed in the McLeod household... ...she brought home a stray that she found sitting at the front of the driveway.  This beautiful, undernourished, and terrified Aussie had apparently fallen, or been thrown, from a vehicle passing by, and because of our love for the breed, we could not turn him away.  We began searching for a home for the sweet dog as Lisa nursed him back to health.  He gradually went from the scrawny, sad-looking creature you see in the far left photo, to the happy, well-fed animal in the other two photos.  Our veterinarian deemed him perfectly healthy shortly after his arrival, and estimated his birth date to be approximately 2-3 months prior to Dundee's.  He is extremely intelligent and unquestionably devoted to the young lady who brought him home, and will perform any task (or trick) that she asks without fail.  Although Shadow is not used in breeding at Top Hand Aussies due to a lack of knowledge of his heritage, he is well loved by our other Aussies and has become an irreplaceable member of the McLeod family.  Shadow showed no interest whatsoever in livestock upon his arrival at Top Hand Aussies, and in fact displayed quite a fear of cattle.  However, dogged determination on behalf of Mac and Lisa, and the example of other Top Hand Aussies alongside him in the pasture, has boosted Shadow's confidence and brought forth the instinct and desire to do what Aussies were created to do: WORK!
